The PROFINET industrial Ethernet standard is becoming an increasingly important aspect of process engineering in the “Industry 4.0” environment. In order to be able to use measured values from analyses in such applications, Knick is expanding the functionality of its premium Protos II 4400 transmitter to include the PROFINET Ethernet standard. Integrated communication via PROFINET offers genuine added value, especially when integrating the transmitter into higher-level systems and during commissioning. It allows, for example, configuration data to be shared directly with the process control system via the standardized description file.
The new communication module enables smooth, comprehensive communication of measurement and diagnostic data from the connected sensors and the transmitter during operation. Since a PROFINET connection makes all data available on all systems, the typical advantages of “Industry 4.0” can be ideally utilized. These include predictive maintenance, for example, which guarantees cost savings while simultaneously increasing plant availability. In using PROFINET, Knick is relying on a widely used standard, which thus allows optimum integration into a wide variety of process control systems. As a result, data from the Memosens, digital, analog, and ISM sensors connected to the Protos II 4400 is also fully available in “Industry 4.0” applications.
