Digital Communication

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has emerged as a transformative force that is reshaping the manufacturing landscape through seamless connectivity and intelligent automation. Reliable digital communication standards have been at the heart of this revolution for years and have become a linchpin in the quest for efficient and networked industrial processes.

Knick industrial transmitters are equipped with certified bus technologies and can be optimally integrated into new and existing host systems.

EtherNet/IP

EtherNet/IP is an Ethernet-based fieldbus. This enables companies to use standard Ethernet technology for industrial automation applications. The technology offers several options for network topologies, including star or linear topologies, using standard Ethernet infrastructure equipment.

PROFIBUS / FOUNDATION Fieldbus

PROFIBUS and FOUNDATION Fieldbus are fully digital communications systems that enable the connection of many devices on one single line pair, enabling a significant reduction in cable complexity. Data is exchanged in real time. Process and diagnostic data are available faster and on a larger scale. With its DP and PA interface types, the Profibus system is widely used in production and process automation; FOUNDATION Fieldbus is primarily deployed in process automation.

HART

HART is a digital protocol that is superimposed on the 4–20 mA interface. The transmission rate is therefore limited. The connection to the host system is nearly always via peer-to-peer networking. Essentially, the HART interface is used for configuration and maintenance using asset management tools. Since HART field devices are based on the 4–20 mA interface, the existing wiring can be used for communication-capable field devices.
