The chemical industry presents major challenges to measuring instruments. Its ambient atmospheres are often highly corrosive, which is a problem for metal components. But indeed, retractable fittings for sensor cleaning are frequently made of metal. For this reason, Knick has developed a solution for safely cleaning sensors in corrosive processes and environments, such as those involving hydrochloric acid: the plastic WA111 retractable fitting.
When sensors are continuously exposed to a flow of liquid, deposits often result, necessitating cleaning. Knick offers retractable fittings that remove sensors from an ongoing process and move them into an inner rinsing chamber in which the sensors can be cleaned. In the WA111, multiple cleaning nozzles ensure thorough cleaning of the entire sensor. A special feature of the WA111 is the lock function, which prevents process media from escaping through the drain during operation of the retractable fitting. A check valve also prevents liquid from flowing back into the supply line of the cleaning agent. The WA111 is pneumatically driven via compressed air or is driven by water pressure, which makes it ideal for use in a range of applications.
Highly corrosive applications are found in a large number of sectors. In the preparation of gold ores, for example, sensors constantly measure the pH value in a highly abrasive and corrosive environment. The process must run perfectly, since an incorrectly set pH value could generate toxic hydrogen cyanide, which must be prevented without fail. Thanks to its plastic design, the WA111 ensures flawless cleaning and a reliable process. In paper recycling as well, the retractable fitting enables reliable pH measurement in process water and removes deposited material from the sensor.
The structure of the WA111 retractable fitting makes it a cost-effective alternative to expensive retractable fittings made of metal. This makes it perfect not only for the chemical industry, but also for price-conscious markets such as the wastewater industry.
